Common Foot Problems
Many foot and ankle concerns are more common than you think. Take a look below to see if one applies to you:

Heel pain can be both a chronic or acute condition. At times the sharp shooting pain in the heel is very debilitating. Trouble walking exercising or performing day to day tasks is a common complaint. Ligament inflamation or a bone spur on the bottom surface of the heel may be the culprit. There are many treatment strategies for this problem; both conservative and invasive. Give us a call to find out what we can do for you!

Bunions and hammertoes are an aquired deformity that can become progressively worse over time. Bunions and hammertoes can be hereditary however thaey are often aggrivated by improper shoes or lack of support with an orthotic device or insert.

A hereditary or aquired condition, ingrown toenails can be extremely painful. Most ingrown toenail issues can be addressed in the office with local anesthesia. Chemical cautery is sometimes utilized to prevent re-occurence of the offending toenail border. Often only a small portion of the nail need be removed, not the entire nail.

If you've ever had a plantar wart before you know how difficult they can be to get rid of. Transmitted from person to person warts spread as a virus. They often last until your body builds immunity to the human papiloma virus (HPV). Sometimes mistaken for calluses, plantar warts appear on the bottoms of the feet, between toes and occasionally on the top of the foot. Debridement (manual removal with a scalpel) and chemical cautery is our preferred method of treatment.

Diabetes is a problem in America that is reaching epidemic proportions. Diabetics can take small steps everyday to prevent major problems in the future which can include loss of limb and even life! With simple foot check-ups and evaluations most problems can be diagnosed and treated early.

Often individuals with compromised circulation or underlying disease such as venous stasis or peripheral arterial disease (PAD) sometimes develop wounds on the lower extremity that are difficult to heal. We can help!

The pathway for a nerve between the long bones of the foot can be narrow depending on an individuals anatomy. The anatomy combined with less than favorable biomechanics can sometimes lend itself to compression and aggrivation of the nerve. A common location is in the center of the foot just behind the 3rd and 4th toes. A sharp shooting pain is usually an indicator. Conservatively this is treated with injectable steroids. Some advanced cases require excision. This may involve removal of the entire nerve or the enlarged portion.

Fractures or broken bones in the feet may be caused by trauma or repetetive stress. Often the first sign of a fracture is the inability to put weight on the affect foot. A fracture is note on the above picture to the bone at the far left of the x-ray. Proper treatment of a fracture is important for full recovery. Most fractures may be managed with conservative care but some may need surgical correction with internal fixation.
